Here are some harsh truths from the show.
Ross and Rachel were on a break.
How do you not start with this?

Friends
But thats none of my business.

2.
Ross and Rachel dont belong together.

Ross pined after Rachel for years and she never wanted him.
When it was too late, she tried to drive a wedge between him and Julie.
Theyre great together, physically, but horrible together, emotionally.
The truth is that they are probably better off as friends with benefits.
Joey and Rachel were a better match than Ross and Rachel.
you might get salty about it if you want, but deep down you know its true.
Ross needs someone who can stimulate him intellectually in a way that Rachel simply cannot.
Joey and Rachel pissed me off more for the principles behind their romance than anything else.
That said, Joey and Rachel are much more compatible for each other than Ross and Rachel ever were.
Rachel is more supportive and interested in Joeys career as a soap opera actor than Ross as a paleontologist.
The only thing that really deterred this relationship was the fact that Ross and Rachel had a past.
Nobody would tolerate Joey in real life.
The guy is a man-child of biblical proportions who is only tolerable as a television character.
Monica is a royal bitch.
Shes bossy, controlling, overbearing, and ridiculously self-centered.
Shes a horrible listener to her friends and unwavering in having to have things done her way.
Only one divorce is really Ross fault.
He was with Carol since college, meaning they were together years before she came out as a lesbian.
Calling Emily the wrong name an exs name, no less at the altar is pretty unforgivable.
Again, he still tries to make it work, but Emily never really gives him a chance.
Overall, though, Ross takes way more crap than he deserves for his marital history.
The show could have survived without Joey or Phoebe.
Chandler would have died alone without Monica.
Rachel was never really attracted to Chandler, and Phoebe and Chandler are virtually polar opposites.
Without her, he likely would have never gotten married to anyone.
Jack and Judy are awful parents.
This is why I cut Monica some slack.
Her parents obviously favored Ross over her, and they were utterly ruthless to her about her love life.
Actually, all of main characters had pretty messed up parents.
What I did love about the show is how well the friends relationships with their parents affected their characters.
