Here are the four plot threads that absolutely require additional context in season three:

Neither Marks innie or outie demand an explanation for what Lumon is doing to his wife.
Why are they doing this to her?

Severance
Why did they target Gemma as a test subject?
How were they able to convincingly stage her death?
Why is it necessary to kill her once their goals have been achieved?

We never confirm if Irving is safe.
We see in the final episode that Dylan returns to the severed floor, but Irving makes no appearance.
So, why were they there?

The goat sacrifice was insufficiently explained.
Either way, the partial reveal unfairly and unnecessarily tests viewers patience.
The Cold Harbor reveal was anticlimactic and would have worked better as psychological torture for Mark.

Meanwhile, entering that room should have registered a much more heightened emotional response from Mark.
