You are unmotivated to finish things.
The misconception about depression is that it always involves a lot of crying and empty tissue boxes.
Depression feels like an absence of emotions.

This emptiness makes it hard to get things done.
Your brain says, Whats the point?
You dont respond to texts in a timely manner.

@thewayiseeitblog
You ghost relationships, and not just romantic ones.
You just kind of check out.
You dont know how to explain whats going on without hurting someones feelings.
(Its not you, seriously, its me, Im depressed)
3.
You sleep a lot.
And then dont sleep when you should.
People who suffer from depression tend to also struggle with insomnia.
Youre constantly exhausted and nap frequently.
Sometimes its because youre tired.
And sometimes its because sleep feels like the only thing youcando.
You turn down opportunities you actually want.
You cancel social plans.
You dont follow up on a cool job opportunity.
You hide, even when you wish you wouldnt.
Part of you feels undeserving.
You find ways to self-medicate.
Heres the thing, self-medication isnt always alcohol or drug related.
Working out for hours on the treadmill can be a form of self-medication.
Maybe binge-watching a show on Netflix is an escape.
If its something you rely on, something you use TOO MUCH, its a vice.
Its not because you dont care about your friends.
Its not because you dont care about whats going on around you.
You do, on some level.
But your depression makes that difficult.
Even when you wish it wasnt.
You act like youre fine.
Because maybe youre not ready for everyone to ask how youre doing.
Not everyone knows how to respond to depression.
Some act like its a contagious disease.
Maybe youre just trying to survive and you dont want that to be a public spectacle.
