I, for one, was horrified but thats what I want out of a horror movie.
Im a big fan of scary flicks that actually make me feel uncomfortable, unsettled…
I love the sensation of losing control, and thats exactly how I felt asThe Witchwent on.
I felt as though I were slipping towards insanity right along with Thomasin and her family.
(You know, in a not-actually-losing-your-sanity sort of way.)
Are they going crazy?
It seems like everyone in the Puritan era was straight up not having a good time.
Then Black Phillip speaks, Thomasin walks into the night, and it seems all our questions are answered.
Well, I still had one big question: why did all this happen?
Whats the meaning of it all?

William refuses to back down and they leave, heads held high.
The only one who seems hesitant, as though she wishes she could stay, is Thomasin.
Thomasin wants to live deliciously. Who wouldn’t?
Shes the only one who looks back.
Later, we see the family settled down at a remote farm where theyre fending for themselves.
Katherine has given birth to baby Samuel.
Thomasin at the start vs. the end ofThe VVitch.
Food is scarce and times are hard.
Then we hear from Thomasin.
Kneeling, hands clasped in prayer, she begs for forgiveness.
Thats the magic moment.
Thats where it all gets set in motion.
What, you dont get it?
It took me a minute, too.
In her desperation to be saved, she has actually damned herself.
Now again, this is just a theory.
Thomasin knows shes a sinner and is literally begging for Gods forgiveness.
The rest of her family, to be quite frank, are pretty shitty.
(I guess Calebs okay but I mean, he keeps checking out his sisters tits.
Who better to corrupt than that?
William has already proven hes conceited, so thats no fun.
Katherine is a pretty petty bitch.
Ive already covered the twins.
(Seriously, screw the twins.)
And Caleb is apparently better suited as a snack for the Witch of the Wood instead.
Thomasin is a challenge.
And everything that happens after that is meant to drive Thomasin straight into his arms.
Caleb doesnt remember the glass windows from their time in England but she does, and with relish.
And so he asks her:
Wouldst thou like to live deliciously?
I also appreciate the dissonance between how we meet Thomasin and how we leave her.
