Meryl Streep joins the season 3 castofOnly Murders in the Buildingas aspiring actress Loretta Durkin.

Yet, she doesnt overdo it, since shes on camera on stage.

Its classic Meryl Streep.

Durkins tone and volume always perfectly convey the characters shifting emotional state as she works through an epiphany.

worthy performing she gives here.

She seems to have misplaced that innate ability to tap into a character.

The first is a heavy Scottish brogue that she justifies via her characters childhood in Aberdeen.

Her decision is so sensible in her mind.

Her delivery is so purposeful and on the mark in her deluded perception.

Yet, this isnt it.

Shes got another accent that, in her mind, is totally appropriate.

Next up: French Canadian.

Its overly sing-songy with certain vowels finding extra vowels where they dont exist.

Its unclear and, once again, she has us eating out of the palm of her hand.

Its up in the Maritimes there, she says to justify her choice.

Oh my god!

This may be the funniest moment in season 3 so far.

Theres just one problem: its her line.

She is an utter mess.

Its meta-humor at its finest.

She cant get a line right.

She highlighted incorrectly and, as a result, cant compensate on the spot.

This is Durkin an utter contrast to the actor with over 20 Oscar nominations.

Little Shop of Horrors

In episode 3, Lorettas insightful nature is back in full swing.

Shes talking to Putnam about Little Shop of Horrors, which she was lucky enough to workshop.

And that story will always shine through regardless of the overlay.

She explains that all Putnam needs to do for his over-the-topDeath Rattle Dazzleto work is find its heart.

She will be the one to guide him toward greatness.

She is the one who will help refine his craft.

Her desire is almost childlike in its innocence, yet she never seems immature just hopeful and crushing.

Durkin is this anomaly of sorts.

Cue the Nanny!

And were back to bumbling.

She swings the kerosene lamp in her hand before hitting herself in the head with it.

Mamma Mia, Prom, Ricki And The Flash, Death Becomes Her,and more.

The Nanny is there to sing them to sleep and put them at ease.

Her voice is soft and tender but not wavering.

When we need to pause to capture the heart she mentioned earlier.

Loretta prepares a pork chop but laments that she had to use the oven since her microwave broke.

Its so overcooked that Oliver loses his tooth in the slab of meat.

She asks Oliver to pick his poison.

Theyre like teens, blissfully enjoying a smoke under the moonlight.

In seconds, theyre a couple of flower children reminiscing about the good ole days and Studio 54 parties.
