Mahatma Gandhi

Gandhi was completely right.

When you dont act in accordance with your values and goals, youre internally-conflicted.

Like me, you may justify your behaviors and convince yourself youre on the path toward your dreams.

But an honest look in the mirror would reveal that youre deceiving yourself.

Your behaviors directly translate into your results.

And when you consciously sabotage yourself, you cannot have confidence.

Instead, youll haveidentity confusion.

The small stuff is the big stuff.

First things must come first.

Motivation and momentum are very fickle.

It doesnt matter how much you currently have.

You will lose it if you dont maintain the garden of your life.

Which, is a daily process.

How close to your values and goals are your living?

How internally-conflicted are you?

Im not above this.

My behaviors often contradict my values and goals.

Perfection shouldnt be the objective.

However, consistency and implementation of our values and goals creates substantial momentum and results.

Theres no way around it.

As Aristotle has said, You are what you repeatedly do.

Or perhaps Albus Dumbledore put it best, It is not our abilities that show what we truly are.

It is our choices.

We Live Our Lives In 24 Hour Periods

We all have 24 hours each day.

If your days arent solid, your life wont be solid.

Once you master your days, success is inevitable.

How was your day, today?

Look back on all the things you did today.

One of the best ways to consciously design your ideal life is to start with your ideal day.

What does that actually look like?

What activities must happen daily for you to live exactly how you want to be living?

Your ideal day should be based on your own view of the good life.

You are the only one who can define happiness and success for yourself.

My ideal day includes the following activities:

It doesnt matter which order these activities occur.

No two days are exactly the same.

If I wake up reactive, its very difficult to recover.Im honestly not sure why.

I could point to several research studies about howconfidence is the product of previous performance.

For me, its holistic.

One thing is for certain.

We are all in complete control of how we spend our time.

If you were to consistently live your ideal day, where would you be in one year from now?

This is all easier said than done.

But its completely possible to live intentionally and congruently.

Its completely possible to replace bad habits with good habits.

And its completely possible to become the person you want to be.

If youre lacking motivation, theres a problem with your goals.

Most people underestimate the effort needed to achieve their goals.

Rather than expecting ideal circumstances, plan for the worst.

Rather than underestimating how much time and effort something will take, overestimate those things.

Implementation Intentions

Of course, achieving your goals isnt that easy.

If it was, everyone would be successful.

People often fail to deal with self-regulatory problems while striving for their goals.

The answer is what psychologists callimplementation intentions, and its clearly seen among endurance athletes.

If you dont predetermine the conditions in which youll stop, youll quit pre-mature.

According to Navy SEALS, most people stop at40 percentof their actual capacity.

But implementation intention theory goes further.

My cousin, Jesse, is a great example of this.

He was an avid smoker for over a decade, smoking several packs per day.

Three years ago, he went cold-turkey.

When I get distracted which is often I pull out my journal and write my goals.

This reignites my motivation and serves as my course-correction.

You cant just want to succeed.

You have to plan and prepare for the worst.

You will get derailed often.

you gotta prepare for those moments youre not motivated.

You do this by creating triggers that automatically reignite your motivation.

Imagine all the challenges youll encounter that you’re free to think of.

Create proactive responses to each.

In this way, youll be prepared for war.

When you encounter those challenges, actuallyimplementyour proactive response.

Conclusion

How was your day today?

There is no tomorrow to remember if we dont do something today.

How you spend each day is a clear indicator of who you are and who you will become.

Its not enough to simply want a better future.

you oughta know what that future looks like, and start living that waytoday.

Winners act like winners before they start winning.

If youre not acting like a winner today, you wont be a winner tomorrow.
