The feelings that most people think are love are, most of the time, just attraction.
Thats the material for real joy.
People think that the quality of a relationship is measured by how hot it is.
The real quality is measured by whether or not you could take sex away and still be happy.
Its not that sex isnt an important piece of the equation it is.
But its also just that: a piece.
And for many people, if you were to take it away, there would be nothing left.
When youre picking a life partner, youre not just choosing a sexual partner.
In the grand scheme of it all, intimacy only takes up a small amount of time.
The rest of it is made up of lunches and dinners, chores and day-in-and-day-out conversation.
Its built of holidays and vacations, and rote daily tasks.
Its the person you want to be by your side all the time.
But that isnt what life is.
And thats not what people are.
Love is that deep feeling of respect and care you foster over time.
But love is something you build.
It will be the person who satisfies you in that way, and then a thousand more.
Anything less is a cheapened relationship.
