It doesnt happen in a day.
Because you see, if that love was true, you dont necessarily get over them.

You wont ever forget them.
You wont ever have those memories leave your mind.
You wont ever truly stoploving them.
I know you have probably read articles with steps to forget them.
With steps to make you stop loving them.
But real life doesnt work that way.

I used to feel pathetic for missing someone who stopped missing me a long time ago.
I used to feel stupid, and alone, because my friends had never experienced true love like me.
I used to feel misunderstood.
But looking back, I should have never been judged.
And I shouldnt be judged now.
Real life doesnt have clean breakups.
Real life is messy and broken and bending.
It is a constant pull and push of feelings and emotions that are ever changing.
So, you want the honest truth?
The honest truth is that you will never truly stop loving them.
Sure, you will fall in love with someone new.
Sure, you will eventually get married and have kids of your own, without this person.
And your life will be fulfilling and beautiful and wonderful.
You cant forget them.
No matter the time that has passed.
No matter the amount of therapy you go to.
No matter how much you love yourself.
Ive come to the conclusion that I need to accept this.
That I need to accept that this man will always have a special place kept inside of my heart.
And I need to accept that thats OKAY.
You will always love your first love.
And by love I dont mean in love.
I just mean that you will always look back and think fondly of them.
You will look back and still love the way they smiled at you.
You will look back and think, damnwas I lucky.
Dont kid yourself into thinking that you could forget them.
Dont kid yourself into thinking that you have the ability to hate them.
Dont make a run at sugarcoat it.
And maybe it doesnt have to be so bitter.
Maybe it can be sweet too.
Because when you have a love like that, its a privilege.
Its something that not a lot of people get to experience.
Real love is rare.
So instead of feeling sad that its over and bitter that he or she left, be thankful.
Thankful for their love and for their heart.
And smile knowing that you experienced whole heartedly.
And smile knowing that someday, youll find it again.
And so will they.
