Most disaster movies are epic world-enders.
But that none-shall-make-it vibe doesnt extend to my own favorite disaster movie: 1996s storm-chasingextreme weather movie,Twister.
Its insular, its quietat least compared to other films in the genre.

Warner Bros.
Sure, tornadoes do some serious damage, but they wont end the human race.
Perhaps thats why theyre finally making a sequel.
You read that right: Theyre making a sequel toTwister.

Heres what we know about it so far.
You might hate the name.
If youre assuming itll be calledTwister 2, I hate to break the bad news.

Some fans of the original are absolutely ripping the name choice to shreds on Twitter.
Weve had far worse names for movie sequels in the past.
(I Still Know What You Did Last Summer?
Shouldnt it beI Know What You Did Two Summers Ago?)
It was originally going to be a lot different.
ATwistersequel isnt exactly news.
Universal Pictures announced they were in the pre-production phase for a sequelback in 2020.
Theyd already had a director picked, too:Tron: Legacy(2010) director Joseph Kosinski.
They wanted to start fresh with an entirely new cast.
Unfortunately, there was the whole problem of her character being dead in the planned script.
It wasnt a little problem, though.
Hunt is a big deal actor, and having her inTwisterswould be a boon.
So they scrapped the original script and, in so doing, have to find a new director.
It starts filming in 2023.
According toDeadline, they plan on starting filming in the spring of 2023.
That doesnt mean they arent looking for someone to take his place, though.
But at least itll be made by three big studios.
That wont be a factor forTwisters.
That also means theyll likely have a big budget to work with.
Does that meanTwisterswill be good?
Well just have to wait and see.
