Theres been major drama happening this past week.
No, were not talking about those Oscar snubs.
Were talking about all thoseMean Girlswalkoutsthatfloodedsocial media after the movies January 12premiere.

In reality, the movie was a remake of theMean Girlsmusical that hit Broadway in 2017.
And the original musical was not exactlyHamilton.
But viewers can be forgiven for not knowingMean Girlswas a musical.
In this case, however,Mean Girls real problem was that it was pretty mid.
But it rarely emerged buried, as it was, under layers of contemporary updates.
Some of these were necessary: Characters could now use social media, for instance.
Coach Carrs sex-ed lecture was more attuned to 2024 sensibilities.
And there were no landlines.
But Feys new screenplay refused to make the changes that fans actually wanted to see, a.k.a.
making Regina George acloseted lesbian.
(Also missing: The beloved Oh my god, Danny DeVito, I love your work.)
Even the fashion updates werent working.
Yes, the songs were there, but they didnt add much.
(More on that later.)
This placed an unfair burden on the remakes cast.
Thats not to shade Renee Rapp, who had rizz to spare and ate in every scene.
Obviously, nothing can compare to Amy Poehler declaring herself a cool mom, sorry.
To her credit, Tina Fey did give a shot to make this cinematic cash grab into something fresh.
Its tricky because jokes have to be surprises to work, she toldEntertainment Weekly.
And then there were those very meh songs.
Those were actively working against anything Fey could do.
WhenMean Girlshit Broadway in 2017, it received verymiddling reviews mostly because of its music.
But the remaining songs, although better, did not reach the heights of, say, Defying Gravity.
And even those didnt hit as well, since they were crammed in simply as fan service.
Even Lindsay Lohan might benefit from all this press especially after Tina Feyshaded her in the script.
Lets just hope that the next projects for these women dont induce mass walkouts.
